Oct 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka Rubber Research Institute says that it has developed a cloned rubber variety that can be cultivated in home gardens.
These trees can be planted in small plots of lands with 20 feet distance between them. An adequate latex harvest can be collected from the trees.
The Rubber Research Institute says that rubber which was cultivated only as mass and medium scale can be made popular as small holdings also through this new technology.
The Rubber Research Institute together with the Rubber Development Department hopes to distribute 12,000 rubber saplings of this new variety among the prospective rubber small holders.
These rubber saplings are to be distributed next year free of charge.
