Oct 23, Colombo: Government sources say 60 Sri Lankan asylum seekers deported from the United Kingdom would arrive in Sri Lanka today in a chartered British flight.
The deported Sri Lankans will be escorted by a team of UK Border Agency officials on their return journey and will be handed over to Sri Lankan officials.
The UK has rejected the Sri Lankans' applications for asylum as they were found to have entered UK with invalid passports and stayed in the country for several years with fake documents, such as student visas and job permits.
Several Tamil organizations and Human Rights activists in London have protested against the move by the British immigration authorities.
However, the British authorities have decided to deport the asylum seekers considering that conditions have vastly improved in Sri Lanka.
A group of 25 Sri Lankans deported from the UK arrived in Sri Lanka in September.
