Oct 21, Colombo: A teacher trade union in Sri Lanka says that teachers will hold a protest march and resort to union action if the government fails to address their salary anomalies.
The Ceylon Teachers' Union (CTU) says that teachers have continuously called on authorities to address their salary anomalies issue.
The Union will hold a protest march on Wednesday (24) from Rajagiriya junction to the Education Ministry in Battaramulla.
CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin says that the meeting between representatives of teacher trade unions and Education Ministry officials had not ended on a positive note.
He noted that key officials involved in the decision making process had not been present at the meeting.
According to Stalin, the protest march would be the first step in the agitation campaign to shift the attention of the authorities to the teachers' salary anomalies.
