Oct 20, Colombo: National Organizer of the United Bhikku Front of Sri Lanka Ulapone Sumangala Thero said that a series of agitations would be held in the upcoming weeks to urge the United National Party (UNP) to reinstate the suspended membership of several MPs and provincial councilors.
The membership of several MPs and councilors were suspended yesterday by party hierarchy since they against the party's orders participated in a rally organized by the United Bikku Front.
The organization of the Buddhist monks organized the rally led by former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka to mobilize a movement against the executive presidency.
Several UNP politicians participated in the rally disregarding the party's ban on the move.
UNP leader yesterday signed documents to temporarily suspend the membership of MPs Palitha Range Bandara, Palitha Thewarapperuma, Ashok Abeysinghe, and Provincial Councilors Shiral Lakthilaka, and Maithri Gunarathne, and several others for participating in the rally.
