Oct 20, Colombo: Supplementary staff in Sri Lanka's state hospitals has decided to strike work for two hours island wide on October 24.
General Secretary of the Joint Trade Union Federation of Professions Supplementary to Medicine, Saman Jayasekara has said that the paramedic personnel would march to the Ministry of Health and hold a protest demonstration in front of the Ministry building.
Around 1,000 paramedics are expected to participate in the protest.
The strike of the paramedic professionals is based on six demands including increase of allowances and promotions.
The Secretary of the union has said that the medical laboratories, pharmacies and scan rooms etc. will have to be closed due to their two-hour strike as laboratory technicians, pharmacists, radiologists, and several other staff at state hospitals will be engaged in the strike action.
