Oct 17, Colombo: The non-academic staff in Sri Lankan universities has called on the authorities to resolve their salary anomalies.
Representatives of university non-academic staff have met Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake to ask him to address the issue of salary anomalies.
Head of the Inter University Trade Union Federation (IUTUF), R.M. Chandrapala has said the salary anomalies of the non-academic staff had not been resolved even after the matter has been brought to the Minister's attention on several occasions.
He has noted that the union was hopeful that the matter could be resolved amicably without resorting to a strike action.
The non- academic staff in the state universities carried out a strike in June demanding a solution to their salary anomalies and ended the trade union action following an agreement with the Labor Commissioner.
According to Chandrapala, the 45-day period requested by the Labor Commissioner to look into the matter had ended on August 10th and the salary anomalies issue had not been addressed yet.
