Oct 15, Colombo: State universities in Sri Lanka will re-commence academic work following the conclusion of the strike by the university lecturers.
University administrators have informed the Higher Education Ministry that academic work would re-commence from today.
Higher Education Ministry Secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne has said that vice chancellors of the universities have been informed to immediately re-commence lectures in universities.
Many universities have called on students to report to universities today and those who are boarded in hostels have been asked to immediately return to the hostels.
State universities were at a standstill due to the strike launched by university lecturers belonged to the trade union, the Federation of University Teachers' Association (FUTA), demanding a salary increase.
The Academics who launched the strike on July 04 agreed to return to work from last Friday (12) after the government agreed to fulfill their demands for a pay raise and an increase in allocations for education sector from the next year's budget.
