Oct 14, Colombo: The National Police Commission, empowered to receive and investigate complaints prom public against the Sri Lanka police, has received around 500 complaints in the past 8 months.
Secretary of the National Police Commission T.M.K.B. Tennakoon has said that most of the complaints to the Commission were on lack of an impartial inquiry on complaints lodged by the public.
The Secretary has said that a number of the complaints have been examined and records of the investigated complaints will be forwarded to the Inspector General of Police and to the Public Service Commission on errant police officer/s for further disciplinary action.
Most of the complaints received by the Commission are resolved by way of mediation between the two parties.
