Oct 14, Nallur: The Chairman of the Nallur Pradeshiya Sabha, P. Vasanthakumar has been assaulted and injured by today an unidentified group on a motor cycle, the police said.

The local politician was reportedly preparing to file a case with the Court of Appeals on Monday against a move by the military to occupy a land that was under the purview Nallur Divisional Secretariat.

He was returning on his motor bike after handing over the documents regarding the case to the Kopai Police when he was attacked this afternoon on Ambalama Road in Kokthuvil of Jaffna Police Division.

The assailant have rammed Vasanthakumar's motorbike and stolen several documents in his possession, local media reported.

He is currently receiving treatment at the Jaffna Hospital.

Kopai Police had dispatched a team to investigate the incident.
