Oct 14, Colombo: The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has passed several resolutions yesterday during a special meeting of the Bar Council on the current incidents related to the judiciary.

The BASL has passed a resolution stating that the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) should not be subjected to any influence or intimidation.

The Association has also called on the government to arrest those responsible for the assault on JSC Secretary Manjula Tillakaratne within one month.

BASL President Wijedasa Rajapakse has told the media that the Association would meet and decide on the next course of action if the culprits were not arrested within one month.

He as added that the independence of the judiciary needed to be protected and that the BASL was committed to it. According to Rajapakse, the BASL was not concerned about various statements made by some government Ministers about the Association and the JSC.
