Oct 11, Colombo: Sri Lanka government announced Thursday that the 65th Independence Day celebrations will be held in Tamil dominated port city of Trincomalee in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka on February 4, 2013.
The Independence Day organizing committee headed by Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne announced at a press conference today that the 2013 Deyata Kirula National Development Exhibition that coincides with the Independence Day celebrations will be held in Trincomalee, Ampara and Batticaloa districts of Eastern Province and in Polonnaruwa in North Central Province.
At the press conference, the Prime Minister said the government has allocated Rs. 59.8 billion for rapid infrastructure development projects in these four districts including roads and power supply in the Trincomalee district.
The Prime Minister said that holding Independence Day celebrations in the Eastern Province will be a unique opportunity for the people of the North and East to witness the celebrations while it will be symbolic of the unity within the country.
