Oct 11, Jaffna: A Divisional Secretariat in Sri Lanka's Northern Province prepares to file legal action against a move by the military to occupy land that is under the purview of the Secretariat, a local media report said.

The Jaffna based Uthayan newspaper has reported that the Nallur Divisional Secretariat is to file action in court against the military.

The decision to file legal action had reportedly been taken at a special meeting convened by the Nallur Divisional Secretariat.

According to the media report, the military had taken over the land in front of Thirunelveli milk farm belonging to Nallur Divisional Secretariat and the Secretariat had objected to the military's move.

Nallur Divisional Council Chairman P. Vasanthakumar has been quoted as saying that the Council has all the documents to confirm that the land belongs to the Council.

The Northern Province Governor is to be informed of the planned legal action.
