Oct 11, Colombo: Elections to two local government bodies in Sri Lanka that were postponed last year will be held under the old electoral system.

Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister A.H.M. Athaullah has told parliament that elections to the Puthukudiyiruppu and Maritime Pattu Pradeshiya Sabhas in the Mullaitivu District would be held under the old electoral system.

Elections to the two local government bodies were postponed until the area is cleared of landmines.

Athaullah has made this statement when new laws on the electoral system for the local government bodies were taken up in parliament.

A clause to this effect has been included on the newly passed election law.
