Oct 10, Colombo: The striking university lecturers of Sri Lanka are likely to end their three-month long strike tomorrow, the Higher Education Minister of Sri Lanka S.B. Dissanayake informed the parliament today.
A joint press conference by the university lecturers' union, Federation of University Teachers' Association (FUTA) and the government will be held tomorrow (October 11), the Higher Education Minister informed parliament.
The joint press conference will be held to inform the public of the consensus that has been reached during the discussions the government had with the striking union to end the strike.
The FUTA has been engaged in a strike since July 04 demanding a salary hike and an allocation of 6 percent of GDP for education sector.
The Ministers' statement was made in response to a request made by Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe yesterday inquiring about the progress of the discussions.
