Wed, Oct 10, 2012, 08:11 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka will hold the Commonwealth Business Forum in 2013 on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), the visiting head of the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) confirmed today.

The visiting Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Business Council Dr. Mohan Kaul, who is leading a delegation to Colombo, met with the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today at the Temple Trees.

The CBC team consisting of its Managing Director Nilk Holme and Manager Operations for Media Sean Leno is in the country to take part in the launching of Colombo 2013 campaign by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Colombo Thursday (October 11).

The 2013 Commonwealth Business Forum (CBF) is scheduled to be held on November 15, 16 and 17 and the theme of the forum will be 'Partnering for Wealth Creation and Social Development -The Commonwealth, Indian Ocean and SAARC'.

"It (the forum) will highlight global economic partnerships for trade and investment, providing an opportunity to attract an important business and trading audience to Colombo," Dr. Kaul has said during meeting with the Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiyutheen Wednesday.

"The 54 member country backed Commonwealth Business Forum will be looking at both traditional and non-traditional trade linkages for the participants. As many emerging markets are transforming into real markets, it is time Commonwealth knows what Sri Lanka's business priorities with its member nations and vice-versa," Dr. Kaul has noted.

Dr. Kaul has added that there will also be a Trade Fair where Sri Lankan manufacturing and exports will be displayed for the international business visitors at the event.

"There is also scope to meet the needs of Commonwealth member country by another member country. For instance, there is strong need of knowhow, training and technology for Nigeria's apparel and textile sector which Sri Lanka can readily and profitably fulfill. In fact, the 600 million middle class in Africa is a very promising market for emerging economies such as Sri Lanka" Dr Kaul has stressed.

The visiting Chairman of CBC also met with the Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa today at the Ministry premises.

Sri Lanka will host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in 2013 that will bring the leaders of 54 member countries of the Commonwealth to the island.
