Oct 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka has increased the excise duties on cigarettes and liquor effective from midnight Sunday, October 6, the Finance and Planning Ministry announced.
The Excise Duty on cigars, cigarettes, liquor and ethyl alcohol has been revised with effect from 6th October 2012 and the new rates have been published in extraordinary gazette notifications, the Ministry said on its website.
Accordingly, prices of liquor and cigarettes have been increased from midnight last Sunday.
No Excise duty for Ethyl Alcohol to be used by licensed manufactures of potable liquor on which excise duty is otherwise payable, or by Government Departments, Hospitals and Research and Educational Institutions as approved by the Government.
