Oct 08, Colombo: The International Cricket Council has named Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardena as the captain of the ICC World Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012 men's team of the tournament despite Sri Lanka's loss at the final on Sunday.
Finalists Sri Lanka and West Indies contribute a total of five players to the ICC World Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012 men' team of the tournament, which was announced today in Colombo.
Three players from Sri Lanka and two from champion West Indies have been chose to represent the ICC team while Australia, India, England, New Zealand and Pakistan are also represented in the 12-man squad.
Lasith Malinga and Ajantha Mendis were the other two players from Sri Lanka.
The losing captain of England's women's team Charlotte Edwards has been chosen to lead the ICC Women's World Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012 team of the tournament. Finalists Australia and England provided nine players to the team.
An expert group has chosen the team aimed at being suited for Sri Lankan conditions on the basis of performances in the tournament only. Statistics were used but were not the sole basis for selections, the ICC said.
