Sri Lanka bowling after West Indies won the toss and decided to bat eliminated the much anticipated threat from Chris Gayle dismissing him for 3 on a ball from Ajantha Mendis. Angelo Mathews dismissed Johnson Charles, the other opener for West Indies with no score.

Ajantha Mendis with his 4 wickets for 12 demolished West Indies but Marlon Samuels resisted with a 78 off 56 balls that included six sixes until Akila Dananjaya bowled him out.

Sri Lanka is hopeful of finally winning a world title having come close to the opportunity 4 times but missing at the last minute.
