Oct 07, Colombo: The Disaster Management Center (DMC) of Sri Lanka says that the lack of bowsers has posed an obstacle to the programme to provide drinking water to the drought stricken families in the Polonnaruwa District.
Head of the DMC in the Polonnaruwa District, Upul Nanayakkara has told the media the number of families seeking assistance has increased to over 40,000 in the past week.
He has observed that the shortage of bowsers was an impediment to sending drinking water to the families.
Meanwhile, farmers in the area have said the water levels in all of the major tanks in the district are fast receding and the wells in a number of villages are on the verge of running dry.
