Oct 07, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police have decided to acquire 18 horses to its Mounted Division at a cost of 48.6 million rupees.
The Police are planning to call for tenders for thorough-bred horses from European countries, Australia and New Zealand.
Police Mounted Division, which is mainly a respected ceremonial arm of state, already has 36 horses. The division conducts crowd control at large public order events and provides ceremonial escorts.
An official of the Police Mounted Division has said that the number of horses is not sufficient.
