Oct 05, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government is considering to amend the Universities Act of 1978 to make way for the development of state universities, Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake has told the media.
He has said the local universities would be developed to be on par with the international universities as the government is committed to further develop the education sector in the country.
According to Dissanayake, plans in this regard are already underway despite a strike by university lecturers accusing the government of not addressing issues faced by the country's education sector.
