Oct 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka police say it had identified over 50 individuals suspected of attacking the new principal of Vidyaloka College in Galle.
According to the Galle police, the suspects have been identified from the video footage and photos taken at the scene and obtained by the police.
Police Media Spokesman Senior superintendent of Police Ajith Rohana has said that legal action will be taken against the parents who encouraged children into a conflict at the school yesterday. The Suspects would be charged with vandalism of state property and assault, the police said.
The Police Media Spokesman says it is a serious offence to incite children into violence in order to fulfill petty objectives.
The Public Services Commission has transferred the former principal of the school and parents and the students enraged by the transfer have attacked the new Principal Bandula Jayasinghe when he came to assume duties at the school yesterday.
The new principal and several students were injured in the incident.
An Education Ministry team led by Director of National Schools G.M. Silva visited the school today to probe the incident. A separate Board has also been appointed to conduct investigations.
