Oct 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka's governing party ally, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) is to call a meeting of the High Command, party's main decision making body, following requests made by a group of office bearers of the High Command.
SLMC Deputy Leader Nazeer Ahamed has told the media that the High Command would be summoned after party leader Rauf Hakeem who is currently overseas, returns to the country.
Hakeem is expected to return to the country by next week.
According to Ahamed, the decision to summon the High Command next week had been made prior to the party SLMC leader's departure from the country.
A group of High Command members last week sent a letter to the SLMC Secretary General asking him to convene an urgent meeting with the high command to discuss important issues related to the party and the agreement reached between the SLMC and the government on forming the Eastern Provincial Council.
