Nov 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) together with lawyers and other professionals will launch a massive campaign from next week to protest against the threat to the judiciary.
JVP parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the current move towards a dictatorial rule has to be defeated without allowing more individuals or institutions to be affected by it.
Explaining that media and persons engaged in the field were at one time attacked and now it is the judiciary, the legislator called on all the people to unite to fight against the present situation in the country.
"The Capitalist system has created three pillars of the legislature, the judiciary and the executive for the common existence of the society. The existence of a society depends on the checks and balances of these institutions. The Rajapaksa family is carrying out an attack on the judiciary, which is one of those pillars," Dissanayake explained.
According to the JVP parliamentarian, the legislature has already been suppressed and society is deteriorating as a result.
"The judiciary that was referred to as supreme is now being hammered. Where will this end?" he questioned.
