* Sri Lanka's people affected by adverse weather assured immediate relief

Nov 01, Colombo: Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera today assured to provide immediate relief without any delay to the people affected by the adverse weather conditions experienced by the country.

Speaking to the media, Minister Amaraweera said around Rs. 200 million has been allocated to assist and provide relief to the flood affected people and the divisional secretaries have the required funds to provide relief.

He has added that leave of all employees of the Disaster Management Ministry has been cancelled in order to ensure an effective round the clock service to the affected people.

The Minister praised the Meteorology Department that for playing a key role in issuing a prior warning to the authorities of the adverse weather conditions.

According to the Disaster Management Centre more than 68,000 people are impacted by the current adverse weather conditions in the country.
