Jun 25, Colombo: The All Ceylon Farmers' Federation, a farmers' union in Sri Lanka has called for a meeting in Anuradhapura tomorrow with paddy farmers who have been severely affected by the water shortage in the North Central and North Western Provinces.
Farmers in the area are expected to discuss the issues faced by them due to the destruction of their paddy lands and the measures to be taken.
National Organizer of the Federation, Namal Karunaratne is to chair the meeting and the federation has already called on the government for some form of relief to the farmers in order to help them cultivate the next season.
Karunaratne said that farmers need to discuss and arrive at a joint decision the measures to be taken to address the crisis situation.
A government minister has said that the government is taking measures to grant relief to the farmers who have lost their cultivation due to prevailing drought in many districts.
