Jun 24, Galle: Sri Lanka police fired tear gas late Sunday to disperse a crowd that was attacking a religious center in Galle district in the South.
Thousands of people led by hundreds of Buddhist monks were protesting this evening against a new sect of Buddhism at Wanduramba in Galle district.
The mob had lynched stones at the seven-story Buddhist center in Wanduramba named as Sumedha Sangamaya.
The angry mob accused the religious faction of spreading ideology that Buddhism was wrong.
The agitation was launched after a meeting held in Wanduramba town against the leader of the religious faction.
