Tue, Jul 31, 2012, 07:36 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

July 31, Colombo: The Action Plan to implement the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) recommendations prepared by the government has proposed a fourth Land Commission to address issues related to lands in the country, especially in the North and East.

Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga who heads the task force appointed to implement the LLRC recommendations and monitor the process said the LLRC contained many recommendations with regard to land issues.

He said that among many activities proposed by the task force to implement the recommendations, a proposal has been made to set up a fourth Land Commission in the country.

He explained that there were three previous land commissions in 1927, 1936 and 1985.

The Action Plan has allocated 24 months to implement the recommendations on land issues.

The LLRC recommendation on land issues says that any citizen of Sri Lanka has the right to acquire land in any part of the country, in accordance with its laws and regulations, and reside in any area of his/her choice without any restrictions or limitations.
