July 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka's ruling coalition United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has scheduled eight main rallies in support of the candidates for the elections of the three provincial councils.
The main rallies are to be held in Ratnapura, Kegalle, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara and Embilipitiya and President Mahinda Rajapaksa is scheduled to address the key meetings.
A series of rallies to be addressed by cabinet Ministers has already commenced. UPFA has scheduled pocket meetings and door to door campaigns also, party sources said.
The provincial council elections for North Central, Eastern and Sabaragamuwa provinces are to be held on September 08.
General Secretary of the UPFA Minister Susil Premajayantha expressed confidence that the UPFA will mark a unique victory at the elections.
At a press briefing held in Colombo today Minister Premajayantha said the government is committed to conduct the upcoming provincial council election free and fair manner and a peaceful environment is prevailing in Sabaragamuwa, North Central and Eastern provinces.
