July 27, Colombo: Sri Lanka Department of Bribery Commissioner today arrested a local government chairman of a major urban area for soliciting bribe.
The Department of Bribery Commissioner arrested the Chairman of Kalutara Pradeshiya Sabha Lakshman Vidana Pathirana, a member of the ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
He was arrested under suspicion for soliciting a bribe of Rs. three million to resolve a problem regarding a land.
The bribe has been taken from a company that is engaged in land sale business.
The official is the latest in a row of local government heads of the island that were caught for committing crimes or fraud.
