July 25, Colombo: The Puttalam Lagoon in Sri Lanka's North Western coast will be developed as a tourism zone, according to a local government official of Puttalam district.
The Chairman of the Puttalam Urban Council, Mayor K.A. Baiz has told local media that the Council is planning to develop the Puttalam Lagoon area as a tourism zone similar to the famous Galle Face Green in downtown Colombo.
The developed zone will be named as 'Colombo Face', the Chairman has told Ceylon Today.
The Mayor has explained that the proposed tourism zone will spread northwards from the Puttalam UC area since a proposed airport and a harbor are in close proximity.
According to the Mayor, the buildings in the town will be upgraded to suit an ultra-modern town and the city will be developed as a leading trade center that will particularly cater to the Northern Province.
