July 23, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has congratulated the former Indian Minister Pranab Mukherjee on his election as India's next President.

President Rajapaksa has offered his offered his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the new President and also sent a bouquet of flowers to President Mukherjee.

President's media spokesman Bandula Jayasekera told media that the President addressed his Indian counterpart by telephone and invited for a visit to Sri Lanka.

Mukherjee, who held External Affairs and Finance portfolios in the Indian Congress government, was elected as the 13th president of India Sunday.
