July 20, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government announced today that a tax relief has been granted on the dates imports to the country for the Ramadan season.
The Ministry of Finance and Planning has announced that the President has granted the approval to exempt dates imported for the Ramadan Festive season from customs duties.
A consignment of 500 metric tons of dates imported to distribute among the Muslims within the Ramazan Festive Season will therefore be exempted from customs duties.
The 30-day Ramadan holy month during which the Muslims fast starts tonight in some countries of the world with the sighting of new moon.
