July 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka's government coalition party National Freedom Front (NFF) led by Minister Wimal Weerawansa has decided to contest the Eastern Provincial Council election alone.

The party has taken this decision since the NFF candidate former Trincomalee district MP Jayantha Wijesekara has not been given nominations by United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) for Trincomalee district.

However, the NFF candidate for Ampara district has received nominations but he is also to contest separately since Wijesekara was not grated nominations.

Accordingly, the NFF is expected to file two nomination lists under its election symbol Panchayuda to Ampara and Trincomalee districts.
