July 16, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today has appointed Palitha Fernando as the new Attorney General of Sri Lanka.
The Attorney General post of Sri Lanka became vacant since the former Attorney General Eva Wanasundera was appointed as a Supreme Court Judge.
Fernando, who served as the Solicitor General was appointed as the Acting Attorney General on July 5.
The Parliamentary Council on high posts approved Fernando as the AG on July 12.
Rear Admiral Palitha Fernando, joined the Attorney General's Department as a State Counsel, and later became a Senior State Counsel and Deputy Solicitor General. He is a graduate of International Commercial Law from the University of Bristol.
