July 16, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government says there are lands available for private sector investment in the eastern port city of Trincomalee.
Ports and Highways Deputy Minister, Rohitha Abeygunawardena has said that over 4,000 acres of land in the Trincomalee Port were available for development work.
He has said that apart from Sri Lankan companies, Indian, Singaporean and Swiss companies have expressed interest to invest in development projects in Trincomalee.
He has noted that these companies have already made offers for a range of investments to the tune of US$ 2,518 million.
According to Abeygunawardena, the offers included projects ranging from cement plants, a ship repair facility and oceanic farming of fin fish that would provide employment opportunities to about 50,000 persons.
