July 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka's major Tamil constituent Tamil National Alliance (TNA) sources say that the discussions the party had with the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) have failed to create an election alliance.

Accordingly, the TNA has decided to contest the Eastern Provincial Council alone, party sources say.

TNA is now compiling the nomination lists for the two districts, Trincomalee and Batticaloa of the Eastern Province.

Party sources say that a former senior educational officer S. Thandayudha Pani is to lead the TNA team of the Trincomalee district.

However, the party has not yet chosen a chief minister candidate, according to party sources.
