July 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), the major Muslim party is to convene today take a final decision on the upcoming Eastern Provincial Council polls.
The SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem, who is the Justice Minister of the Sri Lankan government, has expressed his confidence in the United People's Freedom Alliance winning the Eastern PC polls.
Addressing a meeting in Polonnaruwa Thursday, Hakeem has said that he was not concerned over seeking the chief ministerial candidature for the SLMC.
Hakeem has said that he has submitted several conditions of the party to the President if SLMC to contest the Eastern PC polls under the UPFA ticket.
However, a senior party spokesman has told the private radio station Hiru FM that the party leadership is not in a position to take such decisions on his own without consulting the Supreme Council of the party and the Council will convene today to take a decision.
