The Ceylon Teachers Services Union (CTSU) has stated that it is concerned over a military training programme organized for A/Level students of the Mahinda Rajapaksa College in Homagama at the Rantambe Military Camp.

The CTSU has issued a statement calling on Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena to explain as to what necessitates military training among school children.

The union has noted that only school cadets were provided such training on previous occasions and that this programme was different.

According to the CTSU, the Education Minister is administering schools according to his desirers in violation of the rules and regulations.

The union has added that many parents have not sent their students for the military training programme.
