July 09, Anuradhapura: A former Provincial Councilor of the North Central Province Anura Dissanayaka, an activist of the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has announced that he would contest the upcoming Provincial Council election under United National Party (UNP) ticket.
He has said that he decided to resign from the JVP due to factional clashes. JVP factional sources say that the party is in crisis in preparing nomination lists.
Dissanayaka was a leading activist of the JVP of Anuradhapura district. He represented the North Central Provincial Council from 2004 to 2008.
Political analysts say that the fractured JVP will be unable to secure at least a single seat at this election in any of the three Provincial Councils.
