July 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Attorney General Ms. Shanthi Eva Wanasundera was sworn in as a Supreme Court Justice before President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees today.
Wanasundera was appointed as the Attorney General in September last year. Her appointment as Sri Lanka's first female Attorney General marked a milestone in the history of the Attorney General's Department.
Wanasundera, a graduate of University of Leicester Law School, was also the first woman Senior State Counsel, first woman Deputy Solicitor General, first woman Additional Solicitor General and the first woman Solicitor General.
Sri Lanka Supreme Court is also headed by a female Justice, Dr. Shirani Bandaranayke.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Wanasundera's family members were also present at the occasion.
