* China offers Sri Lanka Rs. 1.5 billion grant to construct auditorium for military academy

Aug 31, Colombo: China has pledged about 1.56 billion rupees in grant money to construct a state-of-the-art auditorium complex at Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) in Diyatalawa.

Visiting Chinese National Defence Minister General Liang Guanglie, has pledged Chinese Yuan 75 million towards the project when he met with Sri Lanka's Defence and Urban Development Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa on Friday at the Defence Ministry.

Secretary Rajapaksa and General Liang have signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the grant during their meeting.

The two defence officials have also held discussion on bilateral cooperation in defence matters, regional issues and facilitating exchange of more training programs between both countries.

General Liang who arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday together with a 24-member delegation for a five -day visit will leave on Saturday (September 01).
