Aug 28, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) today said the government was using the sacred Kapilavastu relics as part of its election propaganda for the forthcoming provincial council elections.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a news conference that the government was trying to obtain votes by organizing expositions of the sacred relics in the areas where elections are scheduled to be held next month.
He observed that the government is now trying to use the sacred relics after using the war for many years to gain votes.
According to Attanayake, the exposition of the scared relics has so far been limited only to the areas where elections are being held.
