Aug 23, Anuradhapura: Sri Lanka's North Central Province High Court judge Sunanda Kumara Rathnayaka said today that the people should stone and chase away the politicians who misuse public property.
The judge expressed these views dismissing a petition filed by a civil organization called We Citizens against the misuse of public property.
Earlier, North Central Province Court of Appeal judge Sunanda Karunaratne issued summons to 13 persons including the former Chief Minister of the North Central Provincial Council Berty Premalal Dissanayake to appear in court on August 22 to show cause regarding the petition.
The judge Rathnayaka today said that his powers were limited and he could not grant leave the case to proceed.
He added that this kind of issue might not occur if the public officials keep their back bone straight.
We Citizens, a collective of civil organizations active in Anuradhapura district filed the petition via senior counselor Karunaratne Herath stating that over 200 vehicles owned by public institutions are used in election campaigning for the North Central Provincial Council.
