Aug 18, Colombo: Elections Commissioner of Sri Lanka Mahinda Deshapriya says action will be taken against the violation of election laws reported from the Trincomalee District in the Eastern Province.

He has said the main opposition United National Party (UNP) has complained of Civil Defence Force (CDF) personnel being used for election campaign work in Trincomalee.

The UNP has complained that 500 CDF personnel have been used to carry out a house to house campaign in Kanthale area in Trincomalee.

According to Deshapriya, the Election Complaints Center in Trincomalee has confirmed the complaint.

He has added that the election complaints centers were receiving large numbers of complaints related to the forthcoming provincial council elections scheduled to be held on September 8 for Sabaragamuwa, North Central and Eastern provinces.

So far, the election complaints centers have received 168 complaints.
