* Court prevents Sri Lanka opposition leader's disciplinary action against local councilors
Mon, Aug 6, 2012, 07:51 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Civil Court of Appeal today imposed an injunction against the leader of main opposition United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremasinghe and the party secretary Tissa Attanayake preventing them taking disciplinary action against a group of local government members.

Justices L.T.B. Dandeniya and C.J. Madawala issued the injunction order until August 20 based on an appeal by six local government councilors of the UNP.

The councilors have appealed the court to prevent the party taking disciplinary action against them for appearing in a photo with the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

These local government members represent UNP in Galenbindunuweva, Rambewa, Thirappane, Kekirawa, Ipalogama and Kahatagasdigiliya Pradeshiya Sabhas of Anuradhapura district.
