Aug 05, Colombo: The lawyers of the Mannar court has decided to boycott the court proceedings until the suspects of the attack against the Mannar court and threatening the Magistrate are arrested.
I.C. Fernando, the Chairman of the Bar Association of the Mannar court said that a list of 32 names of the suspects of the incident was given to the police but the police have not arrested them yet.
Meanwhile, five lawyers led by the President of Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) Wijedasa Rajapaksa have motioned on Friday in court to be the party of a case against the Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiyutheen.
The Minister is accused of threatening and interfering in the duties of the Mannar Magistrate Anthonypillai Judeson to revoke a judgment given allegedly against the resettled Muslims in favor of the Tamils.
The lawyers representing the 11,000 member BASL say in the motion that they have decided to engage in the case to safeguard the sovereignty of the judiciary.
The lawyers demand the Minister be punished for contempt of court and for meddling in the sovereignty of the judiciary system.
