Aug 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says that its move to bridge the gap between the communities in the country was the first salvo to be fired against the government.
JVP politburo member and parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake told a rally in Vavuniya that the party has been successful in bringing together the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities in the country.
He said the success in the party's endeavor in uniting the communities in the country was evident in the motorcade organized by the JVP from the South to the North.
Dissanayake said that the current government was anti-democratic, repressive, and has failed to safeguard free education and health service.
He expressed confidence that the JVP was the only party in the opposition that could give leadership to the people's struggle to bring about a change in the country's governing system.
