Aug 02, Colombo: The United States Thursday welcomed the National Action Plan presented by the Sri Lankan government to implement the recommendations made by the post-war Lesson learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).
"We have long encouraged the full implementation of the recommendations outlined by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission," the U.S. Embassy in Colombo said in a statement released today.
"We believe that full implementation of the National Action Plan will benefit all citizens of Sri Lanka by furthering long-term reconciliation and lasting peace," the U.S. said.
The United States sponsored a UN resolution on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council at its 19th session in Geneva in March.
The resolution requested the Sri Lankan government to expeditiously present a comprehensive action plan detailing the steps the government has taken and will take to implement the LLRC recommendations and also to address alleged violations of international law.
