* Ally of Sri Lanka's governing party says LLRC recommendations on political solution similar to its stance
Tue, May 8, 2012, 08:50 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 08, Colombo: Ally of Sri Lanka's governing United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA), the Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) says the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) on the political solution are similar to those presented by the party.

EPDP Leader and Minister Douglas Devananda has said the LLRC's recommendations on the political solution are similar to those presented by the EPDP for the past 20 years.

He said although the EPDP welcomed the recommendations of the LLRC, he would be initiating legal action against the LLRC for making certain statements against the party.

According to Devananda, the LLRC report has stated that his party was an armed paramilitary group, but has failed to give prominence to the response given by him to the Commission regarding such allegations.

He said the LLRC had made the reference without seeking any response from the party.

"I went before the LLRC and gave my submissions; the Commission could have questioned me on any concerns. Instead they have referred to the party," he has said.

Devananda has already raised the issue in parliament and has tabled the audio cassette of his submissions before the LLRC.

"I have consulted my lawyers and will take legal action soon," he has said.
